Gusto Group Becomes one of the Official Sponsors of Green Football Weekend – A Leap Towards Sustainability in Sports

Gusto Group, a leading group of companies based in the East Midlands, is proud to announce its official sponsorship of the Green Football Weekend, an initiative dedicated to promoting sustainability through football.

This groundbreaking campaign, which kicked off on 18th Jan and culminates over the weekend of 2nd – 5th February 2024, aims to raise awareness of environmental issues and encourage sustainable practices within the football community. As a company championing sustainability, Gusto Group is excited to support this important campaign and contribute to a greener future.

"Green Football Weekend is not just a celebration of football but a significant step towards a more sustainable and environmentally conscious football industry," said Steff Wright, Chairman of Gusto Group. "We believe in the power of the game, we love to inspire positive change and our sponsorship of this event aligns perfectly with our commitment to sustainability and our core values."

Jenny Garbis, Head of Growth at Gusto Group, adds “It's so exciting to be collaborating with Green Football Weekend. Millions of people are engaged in the sport and if we can engage those millions in the sustainability cause through delicious plant-based food that would be a great leap forward."

She continues, "Research shows that plant-based proteins can be beneficial in athletic performance. A plant-based diet may provide performance-enhancing effects for various types of exercise due to high carbohydrate levels and the high concentration of antioxidants and phytochemicals found in a plant-based diet. Plant proteins can also increase recovery time, endurance and reduce risk of cardiovascular issues."

Green Football Weekend is the world's largest climate-football campaign, mobilising fans, clubs, leagues and partners to take action on climate; the campaign will focus on the power of veg to help protect our world. The future of football is at risk due to the effects of climate change, with 150,000 games already cancelled per year due to pitch flooding. By 2050, a quarter of UK football grounds will be flooded, with one in four teams expecting partial or total stadium flooding each year.

"We are thrilled to have Gusto Group as an official sponsor," said Sarah Jacobs from Green Football Weekend. "Green Football Weekend unleashes the power of football to tackle climate change, and we are delighted to join forces with Gusto Group to help protect our world and the game we love. The dedication of Gusto Group in reviving local community club Newark and Sherwood United FC, and placing sustainability at its heart, is an amazing example of how football can help drive positive change."
